Habitat:

Woodlands and forests, and as an escape in disturbed areas and roadsides. Probably originally endemic to the Southern Appalachians (and perhaps adjacent provinces) of NC, SC, GA, and VA, now widely distributed in e. North America as an escape from cultivation.
